Coverage
High Value Home
Household goods, fine interiors and estate contents, insured door to door.
Overview
When a family relocates a residence, the cargo is not freight — it is a lifetime of furnishings, antiques, wine, rugs, instruments and irreplaceable personal effects. Atlas underwrites the entire household as a single scheduled shipment, from packing at origin to unpacking and placement at destination.
Our high value home policy is written on an all-risk basis with agreed-value settlement on scheduled items, so a claim is paid at the value you and our underwriters set in advance — not at a depreciated market figure argued after the loss.
What the policy covers
- Door-to-door transit
- Cover attaches at professional pack-out and remains in force through inland haulage, port handling, ocean or air carriage, customs examination, storage in transit and final delivery.
- Packing and handling damage
- Breakage, marring, scratching, denting and crushing caused by handling, stowage, shifting or the acts of packers, carriers and port labour.
- Named perils at sea and ashore
- Sinking, stranding, collision, jettison, general average and salvage charges, fire, water damage, theft, pilferage and non-delivery of a whole package.
- Fine interiors and pairs and sets
- Pairs-and-sets protection so damage to one item of a matched suite is settled against the value of the complete set.
- Storage in transit
- Up to 180 days of warehouse cover between origin and destination, extendable by endorsement for construction or renovation delays.
- Restoration and specialists
- Conservation, refinishing and restoration by approved specialists, plus the cost of appraisal to establish loss of value after repair.
Frequently asked questions
High Value Home — eligibility and what we need
Who is eligible for high value home transit cover?
Private clients relocating a residence with a declared contents value of $250,000 or more, where packing and haulage are performed by a professional moving contractor. Owner-packed cartons can be included by endorsement but are covered on a restricted basis.
What information do you need to quote?
A valued inventory or packing list, appraisals for any single item over $100,000, the origin and destination addresses with intended routing, and the names of the packing, haulage and destination agents.
How are claims settled — agreed value or market value?
Scheduled items are settled on an agreed-value basis at the figure set with our underwriters before the shipment moves. Unscheduled general contents are settled at replacement cost subject to the policy limit.
Is storage between origin and destination included?
Yes. Up to 180 days of storage in transit is included, and it can be extended by endorsement when construction or renovation delays the final delivery.
Are antiques, wine and fine rugs covered?
Yes, when scheduled with values. Wine collections require temperature-controlled carriage, and antiques over $100,000 require a current appraisal or condition report.
