Coverage
Medical Equipment
Imaging systems, surgical robotics and laboratory instruments in transit.
Overview
MRI and CT systems, linear accelerators, surgical robots, analysers and laboratory instruments are calibration-sensitive, shock-sensitive and often irreplaceable inside a hospital's build programme. Atlas insures them from factory gate to commissioned installation.
We underwrite manufacturers, distributors, hospital groups and project logistics providers, and our terms recognise shock recorders, air-ride equipment, rigging plans and clean-room delivery.
What the policy covers
- Factory-to-installation transit
- Ocean, air and inland carriage, port handling, bonded storage, crane lifts, rigging into position and setting on plinths.
- Shock, vibration and calibration loss
- Damage revealed by shock recorder breach or failure of calibration on commissioning, including recalibration and factory engineer attendance.
- Temperature and humidity excursion
- Loss to reagents, sensors, magnets and electronics from excursion outside specified transport conditions.
- Cryogen and magnet exposure
- Cryogen loss, quench and magnet ramp-down costs during transport and installation of superconducting systems.
- Delay in start-up options
- Extra expense, expedited replacement freight and loss of revenue extensions available for project-critical units.
- Repair and replacement parts
- Cost of airfreighting replacement subassemblies and the labour to fit them at the delivery site.
Frequently asked questions
Medical Equipment — eligibility and what we need
What kinds of equipment do you insure in transit?
Imaging systems such as MRI, CT and PET scanners, linear accelerators, surgical robots, laboratory analysers, sterilisers and modular clinical fit-outs, whether new, refurbished or relocated between facilities.
Who is eligible?
Manufacturers, distributors, hospitals, imaging centres, equipment financiers and specialist medical logistics providers using riggers and carriers experienced with calibrated equipment.
Is calibration, recalibration or start-up failure covered?
Recalibration and technician attendance following an insured transit event are covered. Latent defect and manufacturer warranty issues are excluded, so a factory acceptance test record helps establish pre-shipment condition.
What information do you need to quote?
Equipment type, serial numbers and replacement values, crating and shock or tilt indicator specifications, temperature or humidity requirements, rigging and installation contractors, and origin-to-destination routing.
Can delay and business interruption be added?
Extra expense for expedited replacement, air freight upgrades and temporary equipment hire can be added by endorsement. Pure loss of revenue is not covered under a transit policy.
