Coverage
Yachts
Hull, transport and delivery cover for yachts and superyachts.
Overview
A yacht is most exposed when she is not being sailed. Atlas insures the vessel through yard transfer, cradling, lift-on and lift-off, deck or below-deck carriage aboard a heavy-lift ship, road transport under permit and delivery voyages with a professional crew.
Cover is written on an agreed-value hull basis with transit and delivery extensions, so one policy follows the vessel from the builder's shed to her berth.
What the policy covers
- Agreed-value hull and machinery
- Total loss and partial damage to hull, rig, engines, generators, tenders, electronics and navigation systems at the agreed insured value.
- Lifting and cradling
- Damage during craning, slinging, cradle build, chocking, lashing and securing, including failure of lifting gear and cradle collapse.
- Ocean and road carriage
- Deck and below-deck stowage on heavy-lift and semi-submersible ships, float-on float-off loading, and permitted overland transport.
- Delivery voyages
- Cover during owner or professional delivery passages, including navigational limits, seasonal warranties and crew qualification terms.
- Protection and indemnity
- Third-party liability, wreck removal, pollution liability and crew cover available in the same programme.
- Salvage and sue and labour
- Salvage awards, general average contribution and reasonable expenditure incurred to avert or minimise a covered loss.
Frequently asked questions
Yachts — eligibility and what we need
Which vessels are eligible?
Motor and sailing yachts being shipped, towed, delivered under her own power or laid up ashore, generally from 40 feet to superyacht size, with a current condition or rig survey where the hull is over ten years old.
Does the policy cover yacht transport as deck cargo?
Yes. Cover attaches from the pre-loading survey and cradling at origin through lifting, stowage, ocean carriage, discharge and re-launch at destination, including damage caused by lifting gear and cradle failure.
What information do you need to quote?
Vessel make, model, year and hull identification, insured value, a recent survey, the shipping method and carrier, loading and discharge ports, and details of the transport or delivery crew.
Are tenders, rigs and personal effects included?
Tenders, spars, rigging, electronics and owners' personal effects on board can be scheduled with their own sub-limits. High value art or jewellery aboard should be insured separately.
Is a marine surveyor required?
An independent pre-shipment and post-discharge survey is required for vessels above the value threshold shown in the schedule, and is strongly recommended for every deck-cargo movement.
